Getting there

The N4 is a well-maintained national road which is an artery that connects Johannesburg, Mbombela and Mozambique. Once can also fly to and from Mozambique from Mbombela.

Currency & shopping

The South African Rand and US Dollar are both commonly accepted if you’re traveling in southern Mozambique. The official currency of Mozambique is the Metical (plural Meticais). Should you wish to use cash, it is advisable to have small denomination notes for street shopping. Most accommodation and dining establishments do accept card payments.

 

Tipping

In the majority of eateries in Mozambique, a 10% service charge is customary. Your group size and the quality of service you felt you received will determine how much you should tip your tour guide.

Visa & passport requirements

All travelers to Mozambique are required to have a passport that is valid for at least six more months and two blank pages after they leave their home country. Everyone except residents of South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, and Swaziland must have a visa, which can be purchased at most borders. To avoid delays of unforeseen issues, it is advisable to acquire your visas in advance from the Mozambican Embassy in your area.
