Directions: From Mbombela, travel on the R37 Sabie Road. At the R537 intersection turn left onto the Lydenburg/ Mashishing Road to drive along the Long Tom Pass.
Long Tom Pass
Breath-taking views of the Sabie Valley, more than 1 000m below. Replica of the Long Tom Cannon from the Anglo Boer War.
On the same route is the Gustav Klingbiel Nature Reserve. The Lydenburg Museum is situated within this reserve.
Lydenburg Museum
The museum features some excellent exhibits of early human occupation of the area and the most notable being a replica of the Lydenburg Heads. There are also displays of military history, old gold mining tools and strategies as well as a number of cultural exhibitions featuring clothing, tools and materials used and much more.
Continue on to Mashishing (Lydenburg) and take the R36 North towards Ohrigstad and drive 28km to turn right on the R533 to Pilgrim’s Rest via Robber’s Pass. Marvel at the breath-taking views on this route.
